AI: The Buzzword Everyone's Using, But Do We Really Understand It?

Artificial Intelligence — it's the phrase that’s dominating conversations, headlines, and business strategies. But amid all the excitement, a question arises: Do we truly understand what AI is?

For many, AI simply means using ChatGPT, CoPilot or few other popular tools which help to search for a content or generate a video with a few prompts, or create flashy Instagram reels. But is that all AI is capable of?

AI Isn't New — We've Just Started Noticing It

Contrary to popular belief, AI isn't a recent invention. For decades, AI has quietly powered various computer systems and applications behind the scenes. However, today it has become a trend — a buzzword that many use without grasping its actual depth or potential.

We're seeing a flood of new tools and apps labelled as “AI-powered,” not always because they’re revolutionary, but because “AI” sells. This rush reminds me of the dot-com bubble of the early 2000s. Back then, everyone was launching a .com business just to ride the internet wave. The bubble eventually burst, and only genuine, value-driven businesses survived.

History seems to be repeating itself — this time with AI.

The Corporate Race to Embrace AI

Here's how the AI trend is currently impacting the corporate world:

  1. Organizations are scrambling to integrate AI into their operations.
  2. Employees are being trained to use AI tools, with hopes of boosting productivity.
  3. In some companies, those unfamiliar with AI tools are facing layoffs.
  4. IT budgets are expanding to accommodate AI adoption.

But before diving into adoption, let’s pause and truly understand: What is AI, really?

Understanding the Intelligence Behind “Artificial”

AI stands for Artificial Intelligence — intelligence that is not natural but programmed or "injected" into machines. :)

Now think about it — what is the true source of all intelligence? It's Natural Intelligence (NI) — the kind that lives in humans and other living beings.

Can AI function without NI? Absolutely not. AI exists because of human intelligence. It is human thought, logic, and creativity that shapes and trains AI models.
(Note: For this article, i'll refer to “natural intelligence” as “human intelligence” for simplicity.)

So, who drives AI? Smart humans — the creators.
And who uses AI? The rest of us — to simplify tasks, solve problems, and enhance productivity.

The True Equation of Intelligence

In conclusion, intelligence today is not about AI replacing humans. It’s about finding the balance — a collaboration between Artificial Intelligence and Human Intelligence.

Intelligence = AI + HI

Together, they form a complete system. And for this system to be effective, the total must always remain in balance.

A Final Thought

It’s time to reflect — who will be the end users of AI, and who will emerge as its producers?
Will AI truly define the future of technology, or are we witnessing the early signs of another bubble — just like the dot-com era?
